Public Notice: Opening of All Mount Trusmadi Trails
Notice To The Public: Climbing Mount Trusmadi, The Second Highest Mountain in MalaysiaThe general publics are hereby informed that all trails (wayaan) to Mount Trusmadi are now open to climbing activities via the followings:
- The Wayaan Kaingaran (Tambunan): a distance of 4.9 km from the starting point to the summit.
- The Wayaan Mastan (Keningau): a distance of 4.3 km from the starting point to the summit.
- The Wayaan Mannan (Sinua, Sook): a distance of 11.3 km from the starting point to the summit.
For detailed information and subsequent climbing permits, please liaise with the following authorised officers:

The auction of various commercial species of tropical logs from an FSC Certified Forest - Deramakot Forest Reserve, Sandakan, will be conducted on November 16, 2015 (Monday). These logs were produced by eco-friendly harvesting systems and in conformity with Sustainable Forest Management principles.

The latest list of log description and auction specifications will be available at our website www.deramakot.sabah.gov.my or will be sent (BY REQUEST) to interested parties by fax/e-mail on November 12, 2015. It can also be obtained from the Head, Economy, Industry & Statistics Division, Sabah Forestry Department H.Q. Sandakan (Tel: 60-089-242869/242613 ; Fax: 60-089-666170; e-mail: Andurus.Abi@sabah.gov.my or Hassan.Baharun@sabah.gov.my or the Deramakot Forestry Officer (Tel: 60-089-844000 & Fax: 60-089-844002). The logs may be inspected at Sapapayau Log yard by liaising with these officers.
Those who wish to participate in the auction are to register themselves with the Head, Sandakan Regional Accounts Unit by paying a non-refundable registration fee of RM500.00 before 09.30 a.m on Monday (November 16, 2015) or earlier. All registered bidders are to bring along a Cashier’s Order/Bank Draft of not less than RM10,000.00 payable to the Director of Forestry for inspection, before bidding commences. Those who are unable to do so, unfortunately, will be barred from bidding.
The auction conditions are as follow :
1) Upset-price: As indicated (inclusive of all Government charges except for the community forestry cess at RM4.00/M3, royalty – export at RM350/m3 or RM170/m3 or RM160/m3 or RM125/m3 depending on species classification or for local processing at RM90/m3;
2) This is an open auction with no restriction or classification on the prospective bidder save the explanation thereafter registered bidders may bid separately for each of the batches or all of the batches. However, individual bidders without any registered company and a trading licence are not allowed to participate;
3) A deposit of RM10, 000.00 has to be paid immediately by the successful bidder, and the balance due (bid price + royalty + community forestry cess of RM4.00/M3 + forest conservation fee of RM5.00/M3) within one month for all bidders (i.e. by December 16, 2015) failing which, the deposit paid will be forfeited;
4) All bidding must be made to the nearest Ringgit Malaysia.
AND
5) The bidder is at liberty to choose logs either for local processing or for export in log-form, or for a mixture of both. Log export quota is guaranteed by the Sabah Forestry Department.
As these logs are produced in accordance with sustainable forest management principles, and from an FSC certified forest, it is highly advisable that sustainable players in the industry take note of this auction and are urged to participate.

HoB 2015's Post Conference Field Excursion
The HoB Organizing Committee is offering an exciting post conference study tour to delegates. The tour has been arranged in line with the conference theme. This tour will bring you to see various activities related to conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity and natural resources initiatives that are currently being implemented in Sabah. These include visits to Kawang Recreational Centre, Crocker Nature Centre and Rafflesia Information Centre. Provided below is the information of each of these destination.
Rafflesia Information Centre (RIC)The RIC is one of the Sabah Forestry Department’s efforts in the conservation of the remarkable Rafflesia species. It was established in 1984. Conveniently located by the roadside along the Kota Kinabalu/Tambunan Highway, it is only 58 km from Kota Kinabalu. This area was set aside to protect the habitat of one of the world’s biggest flowers, Rafflesia pricei.
Kawang Recreational Centre (KRC)The Centre is situated in Kawang Forest Reserve which was gazetted since 16 Mac 1957 to maintain the old forest for the conservation of flora and fauna, and to serve as a gravity water reserve and a source of forest produce for the local people nearby. The reserve covers about 1,551 ha and is located in the Papar district, about 30km from Kota Kinabalu city centre. Jungle trekking, visit to the waterfall and sightseeing at Gua Kelawar (Bat Cave) are among the adventure activities here.
Crocker Nature Centre (CNC)The CNC is located in the Crocker Range Park. The park covers 1,399 km2, making it the largest park in Sabah. The CNC was officially opened in February 2004 and is located on a hill about 0.5 km from the main headquarters complex at km 14 Keningau-Kimanis road. Located at an altitude of about 1,000 m asl, the pleasant environment of the montane forest and the panoramic view of Keningau town are among the attractions.
